Real-World Bias Audit: Credit Approval Use Case

I recently ran a bias audit on a GenAI credit approval use case. Here was my approach:

  • Tools: Used industry-standard fairness libraries like Fairlearn and IBM AIF360.
  • Data Backend: Leveraged Azure Cosmos DB with the Python SDK to manage and query diverse user profiles.
  • Diversity Data: Analyzed outputs across gender, ethnicity, and region.
  • Core Metrics: Measured Disparate Impact, Selection Rate, and TPR/FPR gaps.

Key Insight

Even a well-structured and technically sound AI system can produce unintended, biased outcomes without robust, continuous testing. Fairness isn't a feature you add at the end — it's a continuous feedback loop.
